SOHO ROCK BAR

Soho Rock Bar is located in Ürümqi, China.

The atmosphere of an old space with quiet, cozy corners bathed in deep shades with the symbolic presence of cultural elements from distant countries – this is what distinguishes Soho Rock Bar in such a rich and satiated Eastern country as China.

Soho – well known in the London and New York arenas; traditional pubs in their own particular subcultural microcosm. In the project at hand, there is no direct copying; carrying over of Euro-American analogues, there is no aspiration to shock with the “liberties” of free and democratic England or America. The format of the interior aims to recreate the image of a European setting of centuries past, without direct references.

The design presents a kitschy interpretation of Big Ben, the famous English clock, along with measured inclusions of British aesthetics, European-style furniture, and a stage for live rock music.

Brick walls and muted, simple, often dappled lighting complete the feeling of intimacy in the space while the generally warm color tones infuse it with the rather traditional spirit of Chinese culture.
